< Go back

Roquebrun is a small village of approx. 546 inhabitants and runs along the river Orb. It was voted as one of the most beautiful villages in France some years ago on one of the holiday programmes and benefits from a microclimate. It’s locally name “little Nice” and the local restaurant which is situated with a terrace overlooking the river is called “le petit Nice”. The food is traditional rustic French and they also do pizzas. A great place to get photos from and watch the world go by.

Roquebrun has a kayaking centre with restaurant facilities and chill out area to have a beer after the descent. They also take photos of you in action which you can buy later. The centre is in full swing in the summer months, but I love going in quieter months too.

Deval trot Nature – go our among the vineyards and the open countryside on these electric scooters. Great fun and they cater for different level of adventure! Pascal and his team are welcoming and will run the activity to suit your level of skill. Trainers or sports shoes are essential.

Pedalos – In the summer months you can take a pedelo out on the river and enjoy refreshments on the river bank. They also do themed evenings like tapas nights or music evenings.

The Tabacc – Newsagent and café selling light snacks and beer, ice creams, get your river shoes here to stop you slipping. They also have a large screen for watching main sporting events – mainly football and rugby.

La Naudech – The main bar in Roquebrun, you can’t miss it as you come into the village! A great place to sit and watch the world go by. They also serve coffee and out of season pizzas are served here. Josh and Nicolas are welcoming and helpful.

Jardin de Lili – Aziliz runs the Pizza restaurant with a nice terraced area in summer. Its advisable to book in high season as she does get busy! You can also get take out from here if you just want to take it home with you or eat it on the beach! Don’t be surprised if you see Nicolas on here too – Josh and Aziliz run the bar and the pizza restaurant together so out of season the pizzas move to the bar.

Auberge de Hubert restaurant doing typically French cuisine. They have a nice terrace to sit out on in summer and inside is nicely decorated and welcoming put of season. They also do “Moules et frites” at lunch time in season.

Cave St Martin – Open 11am – 11pm – check out of season (you may need to book) Good organic local food when possible. Something a bit different from traditional french. They often have music events on too.

They also have a small epicerie where you can buy products. The food is organic and you can do tapas or full meal.

Vival – small supermarket for the stuff you’ve forgotten. She also does bread and croissants if you cant find any at the boulangerie. Veg, frozen food small organic section, cleaning stuff, coffee, wine, beer, crisps, batteries etc.

Wine – there are a few independent local producers in Roquebrun so plenty of wine tasting can be done. Also visit the “cave”. They have some great wines. My favorites are Marquis de Muires ( just as you cme into Roquebrun), Le Vieux Chai ( just down the road in Ceps), Mas Albo ( also in ceps).

Festivals – The Mimosa festival held in February has visiters from all around. The floats are decked with beautiful mimosa and the smell is deliious! The steets are lined with mulled wine stalls and roasted chestnuts for sale as well as other delicious local produce. Well worth a visit!

Music and dancing – Roquebrun likes to party and so the local firemen hold a ball once a year, then we have the local “ fete” in August where can eat and drink and dance the night away, Fete de music is 21st June and all the villages will have some form of music on. July 14th ( or nearest weekend date) for fireworks on the river and usually some sort of “fete” or ball is held in the village.

Park - there is a children park in Roquebrun and a boules area. This is situated just down the side of the Tourist information bureau.

Tourist info – the office is just opposite the bar on the right. There is a parking along the side of it. Full of useful walks, cycling, places to visit. They are really helpful in here, so if you have any difficulties finding anything – just ask.

Walking There are loads of walks from Roquebrun from a stroll to a 5 hours circular walk ( which I love but it is tiring!) They have also now cleared some of the old pathways so you can walk to Ceps (approx. 1h 45 mins) and back or follow the VTT signs if you have a bike or rent one. You can find the routes online or from the tourist info. The houses also have information in them for some of the routes.

Mediteranean Garden – Opens 2nd Sunday in February until 3rd Sunday in November,Set high up on the hill in Roquebrun visit the gardens with all sorts of different plants. It’s a bit of a climb to get there but well worth it and views are amazing. There is an entrance fee.
