Saint Chinian has an interesting and diverse history. from the ninth century when the abbey was installed through to its restoration in 2000. In the later half of the seventeenth century, Saint Chinian was involved in the textile industry - Our property Pierre Morte was a part of this history dying fabric at the mill. The second half of the nineteenth century saw a great development of wine growing; no longer just for local consumption but increasingly for export. After the terrible flood of September 1875, the arrival of the railway line enables Saint-Chinian to export its production to the capital, for the working class. The removal of the railway will be done in 1969.

Today quality and fame are there thanks to the specific quality of our land and the work of our winegrowers. There are 2 local wine shops in the village but you can also visit the independant wine growers of the appelation during your viisit; St Cels and Chateau de la Dournie are situated next door to Pierre Morte and has some lovely wines. The wine festival is in July.

There are Restaurants and cafés in Saint chinain, 2 snack bars, 3 bread shops and an organic shop. The market is on Thursdays and Sundays selling fresh produce, plants, gifts, soap, clothes etc. You can enjoy a galss of wine and a plate of oysters or a coffee and a coissant at the local bars at the market place. There is usually a night market through July and August on Tuesdays and an antiques market on Saturdays.

Saint Chinian also has a music festival in July.and concerts in the cloistures.during summer plus a whole range of events througout the year.
There is also a doctor, dentist and vet in Saint Chinian. Banks and amenities, 2 supermarkets.

For walking there are some great walks or cycling to explore.
